An Evening with Dr Ben Levin - Monday, 5th March 2012 - Sydney

Improving our schools: What we know and what we need to do.

The University of Sydney, the Australian College of Educators and the Australian Education Union will be sponsoring an evening (5.00pm - 6.30pm) with Dr Ben Levin on Monday, 5^th March 2012 to be held at the The Great Hall, University of Sydney. 

Further details regarding Dr Levin's presentation will be provided in due course. 

Some background information on Dr. Levin is contained below.

Dr Ben Levin

 
Ben Levin holds a Canada Research Chair in Education Leadership and Policy at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. He has managed to combine an extensive career as a senior civil servant in education with a strong track record as a researcher and academic. He has been a senior manager in government on several occasions, including serving as deputy minister (director general) for education in two Canadian provinces; Manitoba from 1999 to 2002 and Ontario from 2004 to 2007. During the latter period, student achievement and teacher morale both rose significantly in Ontario. As an academic, he has directed numerous research projects and published four books and more than 150 articles in a wide range of publications around the world. He does extensive international work and his writing has been translated into Russian, Chinese and Turkish. His current research interests concern research-policy practice linkages, large-scale change, and equity and poverty issues.

Train
Catch a train to Redfern station, and then take a 15 minute walk to the university via
Abercrombie Street, Darlington. Or, catch a train to either Town Hall or Central
Stations and transfer to buses to continue to the university.

Bus - from the City
Bus Routes from Castlereagh Street: 422, 423, 426 and 428. Travel via Eddy Ave,
Railway Square (Central Station) and Broadway. Alight at the university footbridge
bus stop on City Road (opposite the gates).
Bus Routes from George Street: 412, 413, 435, 436, 437, 438, 440, 461 and 483.
Travel via Railway Square and Broadway. Alight on Parramatta Road at the
university gates next to Victoria Park, or the next stop at is the Parramatta Road
footbridge.
Bus - cross routes (Alight at the university footbridge bus stop on City Road)
Route 370 runs between Coogee and Leichhardt. Route 352 runs between Bondi
Junction and Marrickville.

Car Parking
Limited parking is available within University grounds for a flat fee of $6 between
3pm and 6am. Tickets are dispensed from coin only ‘Pay and Display’ machines.
Change machines for converting notes to coins are located in front of the Anderson
Stuart Building (Map Ref: G9) and on Manning Road in front of the Old Teachers'
College (Map Ref: E4). Unfortunately these are not very reliable and it is highly
recommended that you bring correct change with you. Fines are subject to
enforcement so please obey university parking rules, and follow procedures on the
machines should you have any problems paying.
