Teaching: Art AND Science (Understanding why education is changing now) - Hunter region
The Hunter region of the Australian College of Educators invites members and guests to attend a special twilight event featuring Dr John DeCourcy, President of the Australian College of Educators (NSW Branch) and an engaging public presenter on the theme of Teaching: Art AND Science (Understanding why education is changing now)
This event commences with the opportunity to network with colleagues while enjoying some light refreshments from 5.00pm in the reception precinct of the main Administration Building on Avondale College's Lake Macquarie campus. From 6.00pm members and their guests will be invited to adjourn to Lecture Theatre 2 in the White Building adjoining the Administration Building for Dr John DeCourcy's one hour presentation.
Dr DeCourcy's presentation addresses:
- The remarkable convergence of the last 10 years in our understanding of great teaching
- Where we are heading as a profession
- The ways in which an individual can contribute positively to developing the profession of education.

Dr John DeCourcy currently serves as President of the Australian College of Educators (NSW Branch). John is Head of Strategic Accountabilities for the Catholic Schools Office, Diocese of Parramatta. Dr DeCourcy also provides an annual data-analysis service for over 120 NSW Catholic secondary school using multi level analysis to interpret School Certificate and Higher School Certificate results. Dr DeCourcy's academic background includes philosophy, education, theoretical chemistry and physics and his career includes over 20 years as a school principal and deputy principal in Australia and New Zealand. Dr DeCourcy is passionate about how we can and must continue to support young people in their learning.
This event is complimentary for members, but all attendees must still register online.
No registrations will be accepted at the door. Non-members must book and pay online prior to the event. Cash on the night will not be accepted.
