Gippsland Region AGM with special Guest Speaker
MEDIA RELEASE Ability Groups in Schools - The Social Justice Issue
Dr. Margaret Plunkett from the School of Education at Monash Gippsland will be the Guest Speaker at the AGM of the Gippsland Group of the Australian College of Educators.
The Annual Meeting will be held at a dinner at the GippsTAFE Waratah Restaurant, Monash Way, Morwell on Thursday June 4, 7.00 p.m. for a 7.30 p.m. start.
Dr. Plunkett recently presented a paper to the American Educational Research Association's Annual Meeting in San Diego. This is the largest educational research gathering in the world with more than 16,000 people attending.
Her presentation was "Re-conceptualising ability grouping within a social justice framework". This reported the results of Dr. Plunkett's research in schools in the Latrobe Valley. In it she examined student perceptions of their educational experience and its position within a socially just education framework.
Educators from all sectors of education are encouraged to attend and to participate in the discussion following.
Cost of the dinner at the Waratah Restaurant will be $25.
