Dr Peter Hill: The Australian Curriculum: Challenges and Opportunities

The Australian Curriculum is a significant and comprehensive education reform promising to deliver curriculum and assessment consistency for school students in all states in our nation. Accepted in principle by all states and territories, its implementation has involved consultation across the Australian community and has not been without controversy.

Dr Hill will address the challenges of implementing a national approach to curriculum and assessment and discuss how the education community can add value to the proposed framework with the aim of meeting the needs of our students and the nation.

Dr Peter Hill is the Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority. 

In his previous role, Peter was a Senior Advisor to the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority and an educational consultant on projects in Australia, Canada, the Middle East, the United Kingdom and the USA. From 2004 to 2007, Peter was Secretary General of the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority where he played a key role in developing and implementing changes in curriculum, assessment and certification in a major reform. 

Peter began his career in education as a geography teacher in London, before moving to Australia in 1970. Since then he has held positions across the globe including Teacher and Research Officer, Superintendent of Research and Assistant Director (Planning) in Western Australia, Chairperson and Chief Executive of the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Board, Chief General Manager of the Department of School Education in Victoria, Professor of Education, The University of Melbourne and Director of Research and Development, National Centre on Education and the Economy, Washington D.C.

There is limited parking available at function centre (80 spaces only). Parking is also available along South Terrace and at the Gilles St Carpark which is only a minutes walk to the venue.

Registrations can be made online via either credit card or selecting cheque and an invoice will be emailed to you following registration.
