2011 ACE on the Spot - Professor Guy Claxton, UK "Building Learning Power - Schools That Teach Confidence, Curiosity and Creativity"
The ACT Branch in partnership with the University of Canberra would like to invite members to the 2011 ACE on the Spot event:
Building Learning Power - Schools that Teach Confidence, Curiosity and Creativity presented by Professor Guy Claxton, University of Winchester, UK.
The polarisation between teaching for 'standards' and teaching for real-world 'competencies' is outmoded and unhelpful. See-sawing between traditional and progessive agendas is quite unnecessary.
Professor Claxton's work on Building Learning Power (BLP) shows how today's educators can teach for student success and build resilient dispositions for lifelong learning. It takes clarity, precision, time and determination - but it is eminently possible. Guy will explore the latest research on 'the science of learnable intelligence', review what works (and what doesn't) in building students' learning power, and highlight some of the 'smart' things that schools are doing in the UK, Australia and around the world.
This event will be an opportunity for new and experienced educators to reflect and rethink their ideas about their teaching practice.
Afternoon tea will be provided at 4.00pm.
