Charter for the Australian Teaching Profession

The Charter has been developed over a two year period. Teachers and principals support it strongly as a statement highlighting their commitment to the profession and the community.
“The Charter has been developed by the profession for the profession,” said Gregor Ramsey. “It is a significant step in raising teachers’ professional status in the community.”
The Charter is a stand alone document and a foundation for national professional standards, currently being developed by the profession together with Teaching Australia, detailing the knowledge and skills of teachers and principals.

The launch event was opened by Paddy McGrath, a Director of the Teaching Australia Board. Cheryl O’Connor, CEO of ACE unveiled the Charter and spoke about the purpose of its release. The MC for this occasion was Michael Battenally, ACE ACT Branch President.
