Understanding Disadvantage: The Predictive Power of the ICSEA
The Mid North Coast Region of the Australian College of Educators recently presented 'Understanding Disadvantage: The Predictive Power of the ICSEA' by Dr Geoff Barnes, Educational Measurement Directorate, NSW Department of Education and Training.
Dr Geoff Barnes is considered the Australian expert in this field. The Index of Community Socio-Economic Advantage (ICSEA) is derived from the census data for students in a school's feeder
area.
This seminar explained why particular values from the census data are included in the
ICSEA. The seminar will show how schools can study the distribution of these values for the
census districts in their school's feeder area to learn more about the educational disadvantage
experienced by their students.
In conjunction with this seminar, two new ACE members Kelly Jesser and Matthew Taylor received their badges. Both Kelly and Matthew will be attending Fresh Approach to Education (FATE 2010) - A Teaching and Learning Forum for New and Accomplished Educators
