"Teachers are a gift to society who make a difference everyday at every level," said the Hon Jane Lomax-Smith MP, South Australia's Minister for Education when she launched the SA celebrations for World Teachers Day organised by the Council for Education Associations (CEASA).
The Council has 56 member associations which it invites to list teachers who have won an award throughout the year. These teachers are then presented to the Minister on World Teachers Day. This year there were 72 teachers presented to the Minister. Three of them were MACE.
Dr Linda Vining FACE, who is the ACE representative on the CEASA management committee, said the celebration is a highlight of the year that brings together teachers from many disciplines and recognises the wonderful work they do, in front of their families, friends and colleagues. "The event raises the profile of the teaching profession, as well as individual achievers," she said.
The Minister commented that her most exciting and rewarding days are when she visits schools. In handing out the awards she said; "Not every teacher wins an award but every teacher does amazing things. Teachers are an inspiration."
