ACE Queensland 50th Anniversary Celebrations
Queensland educators were recently invited to celebrate ACE's 50th year of service to the educational community in Queensland through a series of simultaneous events planned to recognise the contribution of the College. These were incorporated with a broadcast of the 2010 State Medallist Professor Neil Dempster's oration, the launch of our historical publication Celebrating the First 50 Years: 1960-2010, and acknowledging new Fellows of the College.
Professor Dempster's oration examined significant shifts in Australian education over the last 50 years from a personal as well as a national perspective. He discussed some of the most significant developments in policy and practice as well as some supposed 'truths' about the education of children and young people. In particular, he responded to the question: Are there matters in the education of the young where continuity with the past should take precedence over reform or change efforts for the future?
The live event was simultaneously received throughout Queensland by ACE regional groups in Cairns, Townsville, Mackay, Sunshine Coast and Toowoomba, with Brisbane bussing to the central Gold Coast function.
