Greg Whitby and Mary Asikas (SA President)
Nathan Agius - Yerthoappendi Award For Beginning Aboriginal Educators

The AW Jones Oration was held on the 7th June with 165 leaders in attendance. It was an inspirational and and thought provoking Oration. Greg presented us with many challenges about schooling for the future and 21st Century Learning. Greg is an Educational Leader who values teachers and their willingness to be lifelong learners and finds a way forward to solve the problem of moving learning into the 21st Century across his schools.

Some of the challenges he presented us with at the Oration were:

  • There is a need to moving from old models of education and schooling and to reconceptualising this.
  • Connecting our young people with the learning opportunities that don't exist in schools
  • Providing learning opportunities that engage students v stuck in traditional models of classrooms
  • The need for quality teachers and the belief that every student can learn
