2011 ACE on the Spot - Professor Guy Claxton, UK "Building Learning Power - Schools That Teach Confidence, Curiosity and Creativity"
On the 22nd September the ACT Branch held their ACE on the Spot event in partnership with the University of Canberra. This is the fourth year the university has co-hosted this event.
Professor Carole Kayrooz, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Education) welcomed Professor Guy Claxton from the University of Winchester, UK, to the Ann Harding Conference Centre at the University of Canberra campus.
Guy provided an insightful, international perspective on Building Learning Power in schools. His presentation incorporated emerging facets of expansive education, results from trials incorporating Building Learning Power strategies, and an overview of how several countries have attempted to articulate the qualities and skills students require for the 21st Century in their vision and curriculum documents.
Eighty participants from the ACT, regional areas and Sydney, were in attendance including the ACE CEO Debra Goldfinch, principals, teachers, university lecturers and students. Professor Claxton provided a stimulating and thought provoking presentation encouraging participants to reflect on their own school practices. Please click here for Professor Claxton’s presentation.
