The 'Shifting goals for Australian schooling 1989-2001' as perceived by Dr John Collard from the University of Canberra provides an insightful commentary on contemporary education in Australia. As he says 'the road from Hobart to Adelaide led to some very different priorities for schools over the decade. The changed emphases are the product of the interaction of a complex range of factors. Some emanate from different political ideologies; contemporary forms of post-corporate capitalist thinking have displaced the social justice agenda of preceding decades. They also reflect changed perceptions of the nature and needs of Australian society and the role of schools within it.'
