the site adjacent to Burra Park. It was a provisional school until its closure
in the 1930's. The school now stands on private property.

Rozelle Public School

The first of three public schools designed by outstanding architect John Horbury Hunt.

A standard Gothic design, the original Rozelle School was one of the few public schools with lead lighted windows with coloured glass. The Central and Northern wings were added in later years.

The school, formerly known as Balmain West and afterwards Darling Road was opened on the 4th of May, 1878.

NSW Schoolhouse Museum, North Ryde

The single schoolroom and a teacher's residence were built on one acre of land donated by Richard Wicks in 1877. The building opened its doors to 45 pupils on 25th January, 1878. Originally called City View, its name was changed to North Ryde in 1879.
