A variety of attempts have been made to create computer games that add educational value to these highly successful commercial products. However, efforts to translate the gaming culture to an educational context have not always been successful. Several new, console-based games offer a fresh approach to this issue by focusing on the enjoyment to be found in the process of play rather than the often aggressive pursuit of end goals.
