ACE welcomes Gonski review recommendations
NEWS RELEASE - For Immediate Release
Monday 20 February 2012
National President and Chair of the Australian College of Educators (ACE), Professor Robert Lingard, said ACE is broadly in agreement with the recommendations of the Gonski Review, of school funding released today by the Australian Government.
Professor Lingard welcomed the government's intention to engage with education stakeholders in working through the recommendations.
"We commend the government on its intention to include the teaching profession in these discussions," Professor Lingard said. "We look forward to taking part in this important consultative process."
"ACE believes that the most important investment the government can make in education is to ensure that we provide an excellent teacher for every child. Research has found consistently that the quality of teaching is critical in student learning outcomes."
Professor Lingard called upon educators and policy makers to look beyond political divides of public versus private and work together to find the best solutions for improving the outcomes of all students.
"ACE hopes to see any future school funding system transparent and fair with a planned public investment in the advancement of education," Professor Lingard said. "This includes a substantial and ongoing injection of funding as recommended in the Gonski Review."
ACE is a national professional association with members drawn from both the government and non-government sectors of schooling and across all levels of education.
