ACE 2010 Yearbook to Feature Challenges and Strategies for Indigenous Schooling in the 21st Century

Dr Lester-Irabinna Rigney of Flinders University and Dr Chris Sarra of Queensland University of Technology have agreed to edit the 2010 Yearbook of the College.  To be entitled Indigenous Education in the 21st Century, eminent Indigenous and non-Indigenous educators and leaders will address major areas including: a 25 year plan for Indigenous education; 'Closing the Gap' campaign by COAG; and recent education policy reform. It will be the most update text on indigenous education available. Unlike a decade ago, we are at a historical moment where there are more academically qualified eminent Indigenous educators available to contribute to such a text than in the past.

Current poor performance indicators in education for Indigenous Australians are unacceptable and unsustainable. Too many observers relate this to policy failure but subsequent studies reveal a more complex picture. Indigenous Education in the 21st Century, from a multi-sector perspective, will address the challenges and future of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education in Australia. The editors Professor Rigney (PhD) and Dr Sara are experts in Indigenous Education. It will reflect the collaborative expertise of prominent Indigenous and non-Indigenous people from all sectors of education from early childhood to university who have been invited to contribute, drawing on evidence based practices to close the gap in indigenous education. This multiplicity of voices will grant the book a unique character.
